TL;DR
Step in as employee #1 in the company taking on the focus crisis. You will own our focus training games from day one. Shape how the games feel, play, and train attention to increase user engagement and retention. Real problems. Daily experiments. Rapid growth. Help people reclaim their focus in a world full of distractions.
Why BRYM?
We are on a mission to tackle the modern Focus Crisis — what scientists are calling the modern epidemic where constant digital distraction is diminishing attention spans and our ability to focus, impacting our performance at work and our well-being. BRYM is helping people train their ability to focus. You wear a simple EEG headband that reads your brain activity, our algorithm determines when you are in a focused state of mind, and that focus level controls a game. It gives you real-time feedback, so that you learn what it feels like to be focused and stay there. Our idea and solution is built on 20 years of experience in commercial EEG.
Right now, our focus is laser-sharp on the manufacturing and automotive industries — reducing human errors, saving costs, and supercharging productivity KPIs. But we believe everyone should train their mind and we envision a future where training the mind is as common as training at the gym.
When you join us, you are entering a purpose-driven working environment. You will be the first person in the game development team, and then stay for the journey of going from 1–10 in a larger team that you play a key part in. You will also receive mentorship from an experienced game studio head.
What we are looking for
- You can be game engine agnostic, but we expect you to have Unreal Engine know-how and experience.
- You are a self-starter who expects autonomy and accountability on output and velocity.
- You are ready to be the main responsible person of the Game Project, structuring and managing it as you see fit.
- You are comfortable making decisions and defending them based on a holistic understanding of the product and the stage of the company.
- You are expected to learn on the job and, if need be, learn outside of working hours.
What you will do
- You will become the driving force for executing BRYM's game strategy of excellent focus training.
- You will handle and implement improvements to BRYM's existing training game.
- You will develop and manage BRYM's new training games.
- You will package and publish the games towards iOS, Android & Windows.
- You will coordinate with the CPO to allow seamless integration with the complete Product Portfolio.
- You will integrate various other services and tech into the games — such as focus algorithms, evaluation metrics, additional mobile apps, leaderboards, integrations, and authentication — to support high user engagement, training efficacy, and retention.
- You will assist the development and operation of non-game related SW, to ensure high velocity of the product development.
- You will define and develop a graphical re-design of BRYM games making them look and feel more in accordance with the brand, to ensure a premium user experience.
- You will support in other non-technical related activities of the game development, such as running play tests and demo events, to help the company achieve great UX and marketing.
Your progression & goals
- Short term: Enable successful Pilot projects with existing games by implementing crucial features that drive customer satisfaction.
- Medium term: Improve customer retention and conversion by releasing new games with enhanced user experience and training efficacy.
- Long term: Act as the Owner of the BRYM games while continuing to release more games, and become an important voice in Product Development.
How we work at BRYM
BRYM has office space in the co-working space Metropole that we share with other gaming companies and other companies in creative industries. It is an active office with lots of after-work activities, pool, dart, pingpong, game consoles, etc. We have fixed desks and good opportunities for quiet focused work.
We have clear domains of ownership, where we trust each other's competence and decision-making in our respective field for making final decisions.
We have a culture where we share our thinking and don't shy away from discussions and "sparring" with each other to get the best out of us. We want to build a culture where everyone has a say, but where it is clear on who has the final say.
You have the support of the technical founder who has the overall ownership of the product, the user experience, product design and product outcomes. However, you manage and handle the technical aspects of the game.
All budgets and expenses are managed by the founders.
We hold weekly/bi-weekly planning sessions and retros and agree together on the appropriate level of structure for other check-ins and feedback.
Work-life at BRYM
BRYM is an in-person workplace where we work from the office as much as we can. We believe we work best and enjoy our time most by working together from the office.
For specific periods we can accommodate working remotely when it fits with your tasks and need for collaboration.
We have flexible work hours and work from home. It is based on trust in the individual to balance their work- and personal life to achieve a well-being that leads to a high long-term productivity.
The flexibility swings both ways. It is to make it easier to live our lives and e.g. leave early when needing to, but then also staying late when needed to.
